The Brave and the Boned

A little Valentines influenced interlude. Continuity note- clearly this happens after the tour of The Hero Business is over. That story will continue after this brief massage (see what I did there?).

The idea for this strip came from my lovely and talented girlfriend Lisa. Her plan was that it would be three black panels so I could put a comic up on Valentine’s Day despite being swamped with some other things and still have time to come to bed. I decided to make the last panel extra nice and full color, and threw her whole plan out of whack. I never claimed to be a genius.

Best Ever… This Week!

by John on February 8, 2012 at 11:03 AM

Aaron Colter of COMICS ALLIANCE, venerable site of all things comic, has seen fit to include our humble ‘toon in his list of THE BEST WEBCOMICS EVER- THIS WEEK! ( Why’d he have to add that last part? ;-) )

We’re in seriously great company there- like Boulet’s “Darkness“, which I hate because it’s beautifully drawn, funny, and worst of all, a 24-hour comic (my last 24 hour comic was one page, covered with tears).

Please check it out my review and other great webcomics there, and thanks, COMICS ALLIANCE!

Comic Timing Interview!

by John on January 5, 2012 at 10:31 PM
Posted In: Blog

At last November’s New York Comic Con Ian Levenstein interviewed me for Comic Timing, the podcast of news, interviews, and opinion about all things comics.
I’m fourth, along with a lot of creators of all types including our current crossover comics pal Bill Walko of The Hero Business!
If you know this strip I honestly don’t divulge anything new, but some of those other folks talk about some really cool sounding projects, and there’s a list with links at the Comic Timing podcast page.
Seriously, give it a listen, you will discover a new comic, movie, podcast- who knows! Lots of great stuff in their archives too. I’ve already added it to my iTunes.

LISSEN!!!

Happy Birthday, Son of… Me!

Today is my son Devon’s birthday. This is a very old photo of him that recently turned up. He’s posing with an old friend of the family outside the awesome House of Frankenstein Wax Museum in Lake George, NY. A very fond memory. He’s a big guy now, but just as cute and lovable. I love you Devon, very much.

Blonde Marvel Fan Art Preview

by John on November 19, 2011 at 5:28 PM

The next comic is in the coloring stage. Meanwhile, I thought I’d give you a sneak-peek at a bit of fan art I’m doing for one of my all-time favorite naughty, NSFW webcomics, The Blonde Marvel. A normal suburban working mom, with a believable (though admittedly super-busty) middle-aged all-American woman’s figure, is endowed with super powers. VERY ENDOWED (sorry!)

The premise, from the “About” page:
“The idea was to take a female character who is usually marginalized and who at best is relegated to “supporting character” status and give her the lead. Most super-women are young, single and supermodel thin. The Blonde Marvel however is in her late thirties, married with kids, and heavy. What would happen? How would society perceive her? How would her fellow heroes behave? What does her family have to say about the whole thing?”

I love it that.
The above link will send you to one of the safer pages of a charmingly retro-styled story. I would urge you to go back one page to the cover of that story, which is not as safe, but delightfully twisted.

I will update again later, when I’ve finished coloring this. I’m also hoping B.M. will grace our humble comic with a super-cameo soon, though I’m not sure if Franky can handle her!
