Sympathy for Some Devils

Our special guest hero hails from the webcomic Captain Ahole. This is his older, pre-reboot version, because I thought it would be fun to draw him looking even more like Ronald Reagan than he actually does. And it was. Besides him, we have a veritable bouquet of Webcomic Villain Cameos!

small payday loans very cheap

The gaseous young Hazard (like the name!) from the webcomic Villain written by Adamska and drawn by Keetah.

Nimona from the eponymously named and brilliant comic by Noelle Stevenson.

Felonious Feline Scratch Fury from the venerable PVP by Scott Kurtz.

Hypnausea (who’s becoming one of my fave villains ever) from my bro Aidan Casserly’s Scapula.

Sasquash! A really random choice from Brad Guigar’s villain-heavy Evil Inc.

The diminutive Dictator Tot from Brock Heasley and Marc Lapierre’s SuperFogeys.

And lastly, that aspiring antihero Dylan McVillain, from the also eponymously titled webcomic by Kevin Coulston.

Next time, Franky cruises deeper into the Dark Side.

March MODOK Madness 2013!!!

March means M.O.D.O.K. Madness! And since this year is the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, I decided to “Frankenstein” together a Dalek and their creator Davros with his cousin in chair-bound villainy, M.O.D.O.K. You can’t beat that insanely genius Jack Kirby design.
Every year they put up submissions from amazing artists. Some monstrous, most funny, in a variety of styles. FEEL THE MINDBLAST!

Doctor Who/Zorphbert Fan Art

by John on February 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM

Dawn Griffin’s most excellent webcomic Zorphbert & Fred has been on hiatus (returning soon!), and she put out the call for fan art. The theme was taking her duo of aliens-disguised-as-dogs and mash them up with some other famous duo.

As this year is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, I chose to depict her guys as the third Doctor, the dandy-tastic Jon Pertwee. Funny thing is, despite her considerable geek bona-fides, Dawn is NOT a Whovian! I bet when she finally checks out the show, she wonders why my Doctor looks nothing like Matt Smith.

I assumed Dawn would not want to link back to my comic, because her’s is all-ages, but she linked back anyway! She’s so cool. Check out her comic, which has plenty of commentary on the human condition, as only two alien observers (dressed as dogs) could do. Dawn is also one of the contributors to the Webcomic Alliance, which is a website and podcast with great articles for the creation and marketing of digital/web comics. Highly recommended.
CHECK OUT THE FULL-SIZE VERSION @ Z&F!

It’s 1 A.M. and Romney just conceded. Not gonna gloat, but if he won, it would have been MONSTROUS. But he conceded good.

So happy Obama won. And so are Elsa and Franky. Thank you, stupid humons!

A Dedication to MONSTERS!

by John on November 4, 2012 at 4:40 PM

My pal Aidan Casserly (a.k.a. “DadaHyena”) dedicated a recent page of his awesomely villainous webcomic Scapula to me and Franky! How awesome is that? And even better, he used one of my favorite characters, Knuckle Sam! I hope she and/or her girlcrush (and mine) Jemini can guest star over here one day, as Scap himself did once or twice. This here is my “thank you” drawing in reply, but go check out the comic- it’s MONSTROUSLY fun!!!

Dr. Frankenstein- Tarot Card Magician!

by John on November 3, 2012 at 12:16 AM
Posted In: Blog

This is one of my two entries into the Webcomics Tarot Project, which their site describes thus:
“…a community project in which online comic authors and artists of many varieties, genres, and styles contribute to a collective tarot deck!”
As soon as I saw The Magician, I thought he had to be portrayed by my version of Victor Frankenstein. I’ve been sketching him for years, long before I dreamed up Frankenstein Superstar. I haven’t had a chance to show him in the comic yet, so this is his debut.
The site says they might print the deck if there’s enough interest. If you like what you see, please email Miluette and DEMAND* a printed deck!

*and by “demand” I mean ask very nicely :-)
