Now, you are not going to believe this, but…
I did not think of Virginia Wolf when I named the character!
At least, I really don’t think I did. I’ve been developing this comic for about four years. The only reason I named her Virginia (that I can remember) was so at some point I could do a story called “Yes Virginia, there is a Frankenstein”.
I don’t think I COULD have named her after V.W. because originally SHE WASN’T EVEN A WEREWOLF!
She was an asian girl, which you see with their adoptive white parents quite a lot here in NYC (and everywhere of course).
As a child of a mixed race couple it’s something I always notice, and something I wanted to represent in my comic as an example of another modern NYC family, though due to the nature of my comic, it’s represented in a weird way (like everything else).
The character was designed as a normal asian girl (though nerdy, like most of my characters). Then, right before I was about to actually draw her for the comic, I thought “wait a minute- you know what would make her even more interesting, and appropriate for my comic- why don’t I make her a WEREWOLF!?”
And I did, and I like her that way. But the Virginia Wolf thing? It’s such a staggering coincidence, I can’t believe I didn’t do it intentionally.
Anyhoo, next comic we get back to some NAUGHTINESS! But it might not be the kind most of you might like. Then again, if you’re reading this comic, maybe you will!

No such thing as coincidence! My guess is she was gonna be a werewolf before YOU even knew it. Creative juice flows like that.
I don’t believe in fate/destiny/magic whatever, but the human mind is so mysterious- even I don’t know how I thunk that up.
I can’t tell if Frankie is excited that Lovecraft might be super villian because he could get away with killing him or because that would just mean they could hang.
Frank may technically be a monster, and is definitely a social misfit, but he’s basically a good guy. A good guy that likes to bash humans now and then, so yeah, he was hoping to start a fight.
He will flirt with Super-Villainy in the future!
I thought you name the child after Virginia Clemm, 13 years old E.A. Poe’s wife and cousin.
I think you’re right! I named her while at work, months or years ago. I know it wasn’t Virginia Wolf because she wasn’t a werewolf until right before I drew her for “U-Served”. I was researching Poe and Lovecraft so that’s got to be it.

It took me forever to realize it but I just noticed that Lovecraft has tentacles!
They sneak up on you!
