Definitely another classic movie “creature”- the character was just a misbegotten deformed man, and the story isn’t exactly horror, but the movies had the look and feel of gothic horror, and the “creature” makeup depicting the bell ringer is usually quite monstrous.
I wanted to make my “Q” very much not like the Disney version, but I think we both were heavily influenced by the Charles Laughton version. When I Googled his face I found it irresistible, and his performance, and the 1939 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame are INCREDIBLE. If you haven’t seen it, check it out.
I also felt like drawing a creature with goopy, melty features like you’d see in a Tales from the Crypt -type comic. So my Q is extra funky.
(I feel I should also point out that I have a nephew named Q- I haven’t seen him in quite a while, but he’s a handsome young man who bears no resemblance to this Q, in looks or habits.)
By the way, there’s a very tiny EASTER EGG reference to another webcomic in one panel. I wonder who can find it?
Two more soul-searching parts- and in the last one, we get a little cheesecake
