Long time, no update! (Ducks tomato) I had to catch up on some freelance etc. post Comic-Con, but now I’m back!
This comic features a special guest appearance by the super-villainous star of Aiden Casserly’s webcomic SCAPULA! A long time favorite of mine, it’s full of nefarious types and mayhem. I especially love his girl-villains Knuckle Sam and Jemini. They are my kind of women- full-figured and evil. I hope they can come over to play sometime.
Franky’s job search is about to take a detour via Metropolis. Or Gotham. Lots of super-powered shenanigans is what I’m talking about.
But will Frankenstein be a hero, or a villain?
Please come back to find out!
Whoa, the Creature’s back, and he’s raided Luke Cage’s cedar chest.
Sweet Christmas, something tells me things are about to get fairly funky.
He’s part Luke Cage, part The Vanisher (the scaly “Afro”), and part Hydron from Salem’s Seven.
And yes, he’s ALL funky.
Oh, God, The Vanisher. Now there’s an entry in the Villain Hall of Shame. Of course, my view of him may be colored by the first time I saw him in Spidey Super Stories, where his caper was to take as many books from the public library as he wanted, without a library card.
He was foiled by the tag-team of Spider-Man and Easy Reader.
Yeah, I’d say that wasn’t the moment he’d want to be remembered for. Then again, he WAS acting with Morgan Freeman.
True. Personally I preferred his Dracula to Easy Reader anyway.
Dracula in the tub!
Potrzebie? hee hee hee! You been reading too much Mad Magazine again?
Thank Zod, someone got that right away!
As I was pushing it live I thought, “this is a bad reference, because I’m going to have to explain it to everybody.”
You have made my day.
And yes, someone actually lent me a big box of Mad magazines from the 70′s & 80′s, and I’ve been talking about them in class. According to Wikipedia, Harvey Kurtzman invented modern American satirical humor in Mad.
Sheesh. Now I feel old. I read those when they were new on the shelves. Potrzebie is one of those words that will be ingrained in my subconscious forever. That made me feel briefly like a kid again. I liked it!
I remember discovering Mad in the 70′s. I thought I had unearthed this amazingly subversive, grown up thing, despite the zany humor. It really was a great feeling. A haven of heady satire to temporarily escape my unpleasant ghetto life. And all for just a few cents. Cheap!
Now I want to read some of Those great stories again, like Mole! And Heap!
“Oh my god!! It’s…. It’s…. It’s….. HEAP!!!!!”
Hee hee hee!
Potrzebie! It has been awhile. I also got the big box of Mad- but it was in the 70′s- that had all the great reprints from the 50′s when Wally Wood et all were defining what comics should be. Thanks!
I’n teaching humor & caricature at the Kubert School, and all those old EC/Mad guys keep coming up in my lessons. Such an amazing concentration of talent, such that may never come again.
Every tim I’m getting pissed about how long it’s been, you come out with a page like this and I remember why I am willing to suffer between strips/
Thanks. I’m trying to cut down on the long waits, no matter what the content. That last one was bad.
Very cool! Love the character design for the Creature.
Thank you! I like him too
I have no plans for him past the next comic. I’ll have to think of something.
Dude! Awesome job! I’m so flattered to have Scap wiped out by such a badass-looking Creature from the Black Lagoon hero! Supreme honor, amigo.
The Harvey Kurtzman reference also made my day.
I, too, remember the Vanisher. I don’t know why he wore a cobra-themed costume…I don’t know why he thought he could take on the X-Men…come to think of it, nothing about the guy made much sense. No wonder Magneto didn’t try to recruit him.
All in all, super-smashing-awesome comic, and Jemini and Knuckle Sam are welcome to come play any ol’ day!
…and I got a big laugh out of the Dog Butt-Wiper job. Better than having them scoot on the carpet!
That one I had meant to replace, but I was so late with the update that I put it up as-is. I’m glad someone liked that one. I don’t think it’s quite as dirty or reprehensible as Governor of Texas.
I’m going to take you up on that Jemini/Knuckle Sam cameo in a few weeks. And Scapula will have a brief return next comic. It will not turn out well for him, as is his lot in life
Thanks for letting me borrow him, even in one or two panels he’s so much fun.
You are REALLY good at fitting lots of little jokes in one strip!
Thank you! Sergio Aragones’ little border cartoons were an early inspiration.
