Does this page look different? I’ve changed the way I do this comic. If you are not a Process Junkie, this might get boring.
I still pencil and ink the page traditionally. I used to do it any height I wanted (according to the story), then scanned and colored the individual panels in Photoshop, then assembled the panels in Comic Life Magiq. It’s not a professional comic application, it’s more for hobbyists. It lets me make really fast panels and word balloons, but it’s clumsy, and limits my control and options. It served me well for many years, but I’m finally giving it up for most of my comic work (maybe just for quickies).
Teaching at the Kubert School has taught me a lot about how to set up my comics in Photoshop and color them. I had a method, but I want to do it more like the other professionals. Creating my panels and balloons in Photoshop and Illustrator is part of that more professional work flow, and it yields a more creative result. It may take longer at first, but it gets easier every time you do it.
I’m also considering drawing every page the full comic book size (10″X15″), thought I might cut them up for each webcomic update. This would make it easier to assemble into a book when I’m ready to publish (the comic up til now is going to be hell to lay out for printing).
This is just the first part of Franky’s fantasy, “fighting” a team made up of women superheroes of webcomics. This time they are:
Incredo-Lass from Tales of the Emerald Yeti
Mega Maiden from Mega Maiden and the Chop Chop Princess
Gyno-Star from The Adventures of Gyno-Star
Pulse from Pulse
Kitty VonKat from Mallville Rules
Maya from Magellan
Distracterella from League of Super-Redundant Heroes
Wonderella from The Non-Adventures of Wonderella
Last there’s my girl hero, Thunda Krack, who I swear to Zod, I have been waiting YEARS to draw- any resemblance to Thunder Booty is purely coincidental… and sexy.
Thanks to all the webcomic creators who let me draw a cameo of your awesome character in my comic (especially the ones I haven’t asked yet). They of course retain the copyright of their respective creations. Next time- more super lady cameos! Any suggestions of other webcomic power-girls Franky might like in his fantasy are very welcome.
oh man this is pretty epic! awesome job here!
Thanks. Your Mega Maiden is a fun character & comic. I wish she and Franky were doing more. Maybe someday!
And I swear, I made up Thunda Krack years ago, long before I saw your new character Thunder Booty. Are her powers actually booty-related? Maybe the two heroes can get their powers from the same place, like Flash and that Speed Force. What’s Thunder Booty’s origin? Because Thunda Krack doesn’t have one, and THAT I might like to steal
haha could be fun! Thunder Booty sadly doesn’t get her powers from her booty. She just chose some bad choices. The boot refers to well electric powers and treasure/booty LOL but now you have me thinking maybe she could totally channel electricity through heavenly empowered butt-friction? But I thought i could be awesome to draw someone with a big booty with an actual booty name haha! but, I didn’t actually create an origin for her yet.
How can you NOT love this? Booty-lovers’ heaven here!
Nice to see you continuing the tradition of webcomic crossovers; Lord knows someday there’s going to be an epic inter-comic war drawn out here!
My only regret is not drawing all the booties BIGGER!
It’s a dream. In part 3 they all might swell a bit.
Oh, and am I the only one who had a certain tune in my head for the last panel?
“Thunda! Thunda! THUNDA KRACKS!”
Ho! Hoooooo!
You’re getting ahead of me, ya bastid!
I would suggest Maxima from my comic but she would be SO MAD to play the part of a floosie in a tawdry fantasy (like that wouldn’t happen anyway.) Besides she’s a skinny (and by skinny I mean busty and muscular) white girl. And by white I mean gold.
Dabbler or Anvil might be more his speed.
Franky certainly has nothing against white or golden women, but he would prefer someone more… jiggly. I put Gyno-Star and Wonderella in there because they were so perfect for their lines, and I’ve admired their comics for a long time.
Your character would be awfully fun to draw though.
I’d love to see it!
Brad Guigar’s “Evil Inc.” has several…top two would be Lightning Lady and Miss Match.
http://www.evil-comic.com/
I tried to find someone from Evil Inc. but aren’t all his characters villains? These are all heroes.
He has two heroines that I can recall: Amazing Amazon and Blonde Bombshell, here seen in a hero vs. hero smackdown storyline: http://www.evil-comic.com/archive/20101202.html
I can’t put into words how much I love this. In fairness Kitty VonKat is not a superhero per se, rather she is a super powered individual who currently attends high school in the town of Mallville.
Maybe this is after she has graduated high school and become a superhero.
Because surely Frankenstein wouldn’t fantasize about a high school girl.
Thanks Gary!
She’s legal in cat years. Well, in cat years she’s 64.
Franky is 194. It’s not that he’s one of those creepy guys who’s only interested in women younger than him, it’s just that most of the women his age are dead. And he is not into that.
AWESOME PAGE!!!! I looks terrific. I say keep going with this process and try to make it quicker and more efficient. It already looks good, so I’m sure it’s gonna get better.
Thanks. Especially for reading my long process post!
I need to get used to the size- my panels and lettering are too big.
I considered putting someone from Super Haters in the mix. I think it would be a lot of fun to draw Destruct-O-Tron.
Ha! I love this! Thanks for letting Gyno-Star make a guest appearance. It’s fun seeing her in such distinguished company, too!
Thank you. Your comic is an inspiration.
Well thanks John ;-p I really needed another five webcomics to follow (Tales of the Emerald Yeti appears to be a one-off, and I was already subscribed to League of Super-Redundant Heroes and The Non-Adventures of Wonderella) and I’ve Archive Trawled all of them since yesterday.
Glad I could waste some of your time
The Wonderella cameo is my absolute favorite. She’s always been more of an “inaction hero.”
Yeah, she doesn’t quite have the stuff Franky would fantasize about, but I couldn’t resist her attitude.
But then, that’s what makes Wonderella the the perfect buzzkill
Wow, that’s really something. You comics are even blue and gray, just like Pulse. Thanks for including her. It’s awesome.
It almost seems like the logical continuation later would be that eventually they are captured and he has to save them. Although it would have to be appropriately silly, and related to booty considering that’s the focus here. Maybe some kind of booty-stealing villain, or someone who grows stronger when people pay attention to her booty (which would be a weakness for Frank)?
This sequence is just a quick fantasy in Franky’s head- just one more page. I might like to explore that booty power concept at a later date though
The black and blue color scheme gets a lot of positive comments. I really like it, though I wonder sometimes if it wouldn’t take the same amount of time to do full color. I really like the two tone look, but I thought it might also be cheaper to print than full color (when I’m ready to go to print someday) but I spoke to a publisher and he thought it would cost the same as full color.
THUNDERCATS HOOOOOO!
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
As for moar superheroines, I suggest Spinnerette, HER butt shots webs!
And maybe someone from GenXorcist, maybe Kaballah Jones? Actually, she’s kind of crazy, she might beat Frankie up for not looking at her butt.
I was considering Spinerette. I couldn’t figure out exactly where the webs came from- is it really her butt?
I hadn’t seen GenXorcist. Lots of interesting women heroes there, I’ll have to use one or two, even though they’re all a little more muscle-y than jiggly as Franky prefers.
Thanks!
Yep, just like a real spider, lol.
Ooh, ooh, I just remembered Cuteybunny!
http://www.cuteybunny.com/
It’s hard to tell from all the different versions of her, but in her original, print incarnation, she was a superhero, and her butt gets extra points for having a cute widdle bunny tail.
Once again, ¡What Knockers!
Frankie? come back Frankie! we miss you! aww c’mon PLEASE????!??!
Aw… Coloring a new one now. Please hang on a little longer.
“Like trying to eat pudding with a Twizzler…” HAHAHAHAA
I’m gonna eat your brains and steal your writin’ powers, man.
Let me know when I can pencil you in for that.
I really labored over that line
I’m glad Just this afternoon I was thinking I really need to improve the writing on this thing. So reading that you want to eat my brain makes me feel better.
We’ll do lunch
This got to be the best lineup of sexy heroines EVER!
… not to mention a hell of a lot of work for me
Awesome- I want to be in your Archive.
A lot of recent pages have cameos and crossovers.
They should all be there by now!
Thank you- that WAS a lot of work for you. What a list!
I’m going to have to make a special link on my site for that. I love webcomic crossovers.
When we share the love
… and that would be awesome!
Thanks for letting Maya come over to play in Franky’s head. There’s more Magellan goodness coming next update. I’m inking another one of your intrepid SHEroes right now!
