FRANKENSTORM is coming!

As u can see, Frankenstein LOVE storms- but hate people! So if you’re in an area where evacuation is recommended- GET OUT!

We’re in breezy Washington Heights- pretty much the highest point in Manhattan. So, safe from flooding. Winds? We’ll see.

Some people are debating the relevance of the name “Frankenstorm”, but I think it’s totally makes sense. Not only is it two or more things thrown together to form something monstrous, there’s also a possibility that man-made global climate change is lending power to the storm.

Be safe everyone. And I hope the power stays on- new comic coming!

Eartha does Michonne!

Really looking forward to The Walking Dead this weekend. Last week’s season premiere was really great. Time has passed, the gang have become way more comfortable with killing zombies- but maybe losing touch with their humanity? Rick sure seems to be. Can he be a good leader, and still be a good man/father/husband? Should he really be letting that awful child wave that gun around? And what’s wrong with a little dog food now and then?

If there’s one thing that’s scarier than flesh-eating zombies, it’s extra-rotten zombies in riot gear. Awesome. Feels like it’s going to be a great season. And Eartha is looking forward to more hot Michonne action.

Just wanted to say “Hi!” to all the great folks I met at New York Comic Con- still recovering from all the fun. Went to some great panels, including:

  • “Pitching for Professionals” with former Marvel and IDW editor Andy Schmidt, IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall and Marvel Editor Nick Lowe.
  • “Digital Comics: The Next Page” Hosted by iVerse MediaMark Waid (Thrillbent, Daredevil), Michael Murphey (iVerse, ComicsPlus), Mike Pellerito (Archie Comics, Red Circle) and Josh Elder (Reading with Pictures) & moderated by iVerse Director of Business Development, Steve May.
  • “How to Get a Job in the Video Game Industry with Capcom” with “Andrew Schnorr, Francis Mao, Karl Reader, Laili Bosma, Matt Dhalgren, Mike Lunn, Robert Tunick, &Tristan Corbet.
  • “Archie Comics: The Hottest Publisher in the Industry” with Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater, President Mike Pellerito, Editor-in-chief Victor Gorelick, writer/artist Dan Parent (Kevin Keller), & writer Michael Uslan (yes, I want to draw Archie. Especially SABRINA!)
  • “Creator Connection” with Buddy Scalera ,Haydee Urena , James McGill, & Zoe Labella- like speed dating for artists/writers/editors. If you met me there, send me an email
  • “Writers Unite: Pitching and Writing Creator-Owned Comics” with Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun), Ray Fawkes (One Soul), Charles Soule (27), and moderator Jim Zub (Skullkickers) who was a LOT of fun.
  • “Webcomics – From Hobby to Business” Ryan Sohmer (who was a foul-mouthed pistol!) and Lar de Souza, of LEAST I COULD DO and LOOKING FOR GROUP.
  • “The Brave New World of E-Book Publishing” with Andrea J. Buchanan, Betsy Mitchell, Colleen Lindsay, Michael J. Sullivan, & Robin Sullivan.
  • also Dare2Draw‘s “Quick Draw” Contest (I did not win!)

Thanks to every one of those folks, I learned a lot. Fun is over though- new updates coming soon!

KLINGON Dat Booty!

The mutant Superhero high school students of webcomic Mallville Rules have been traveling the world on Summer vacation, and I got to portray one of my favorites, Kitty VonKat, on her trip to my (and Franky’s) home city, NYC. Naturally, I made her a Trekkie (like myself and Franky), and had her visit the space shuttle Enterprise in honor of Star Trek’s recent 46th Anniversary. Not as much an honor was who Franky mistook her for. Click through to find out who!

Vacations STINKS!

by John on August 28, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Still on vacation. Encountering a lot of skunks. They would be awfully cute, if not for the whole anal stink glands thing. They are very hard to scare away- and of course you don’t want to startle them. I did some Wikipedia-ing on my phone (real camping, right?) and it turns out they are really reluctant to use their stink for defense- it takes them a long time to recharge. The staff at the camp we’re staying says they haven’t had a case of skunk attack in 10 years, despite the fact that the place is crawling with them. Now that I have a false sense of security, I actually like them. They’re like cats, but less rude. One young one walked right through my legs- apparently they have a strong sense of smell, but are extremely nearsighted. I wonder if it’s legal to keep them as pets in NYC?
